Pretty route featuring ridgeway and downland, water meadows and chalk streams. A large section of the walk is flat and there is just one long gentle 200m ascent spread over 5 miles. Via St Catherine’s Hill, St Cross, & Twyford. There is cafe by our lunch stop in Winchester, but no pub on this route.

The route includes the MOD rifle range at Chilcomb – we”ll take the footpath across, unless the red flags are flying, in which case we’ll go around. Usual safety rules about not touching shiny objects etc apply. Dog owners should consider whether they are ok with this (potential noise etc) – dogs on leads are otherwise welcome on the route. Hopefully it will be a quiet morning.

Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink.
