Two of our fellow young walkers from the Chilterns and Hampshire groups have been organising a regular virtual pub quiz since the first lockdown, to which members of all the 20s & 30s and similar Ramblers groups around the country are welcome. It’s been a great opportunity despite the lockdown to socialise not just with our own group, but with members of other groups all across the country – even though the 2020 National Young Ramblers weekend sadly had to be postponed.
Back in Lockdown III, these events are now happening roughly twice a month – in this regular last-Thursday-of-the-month slot, and usually one of the other weeks in between as well.
This event is run on the “Young Ramblers Chatroom” server on the Discord text/voice chat platform. Use this link to get access and please introduce yourself in #intro-channel. You can either download the app to your computer or phone, or use the web version directly in a browser (Chrome and derivatives seem to work well at least).
You’ll find full details in the #thursday-night-quiz channel on in the chatroom itself, but briefly: there will be 5 rounds including pictures, lyrics and walking rounds plus choices from the hosts and the losing team of the previous week. Arrive from 7:30pm to be sorted into teams (you don’t need to come with a ready-made team!) and the quiz itself will start promptly at 8pm. Questions will be read out over voice chat by the quizmaster, and your team will have a private channel to discuss your answers. There will be breaks between rounds for general chat, to consolidate your answers for each round, get a drink etc. Finish time is approximate, but based on previous weeks will probably be around 10pm. Finally, it might be easy to cheat in an online quiz but please don’t as it spoils it for everyone including yourself!
