Joining the Berkshire Walkers

The Berkshire Walkers are part of the Ramblers. Joining brings all the benefits of being part of the UK’s largest walking organisation, with discounts available in many walking shops. You will also receive a regular magazine about walking in the UK and things that affect your rights to walk through our amazing and varied countryside. Your membership fees will contribute to the Ramblers’ efforts to promote walking as a healthy pass-time, to campaign for access and to fight for maintained access to our rights of way.

The Berkshire Walkers was established in 2000 specifically to cater for young walkers in their 20s and 30s. We continue to recruit new members primarily in this range, but also have a few members in their 40s as they have got older. We also have a sister group, the Berkshire Weekend Walkers, aimed at older walkers still of working age, which some of our former members have moved on to. If you feel you might be “in between” then you’re welcome to try walking with both and see which suits you better. All Ramblers members are nevertheless welcome to join our walks.

The group has steadily grown its membership, and new walkers frequently come along on our walks. You’re welcome to try two or three to get a feel for the group for free, without any obligation to join.

How to join the group

Joining Berkshire Walkers is simple. First come along on two or three walks to see whether the group is right for you. Walk leaders or committee members can offer advice and answer any queries you might have. If you decide you’d like to continue walking with us then please join via the Ramblers website. This link should automatically select “Berkshire” as your Area and “Berkshire Walkers” as your group, but please check this in the final step.

Once you have signed up as a member, you’ll receive your membership card, welcome pack and quarterly magazine from Ramblers, and automatically receive the group’s weekly programme update containing details of our upcoming walks and other events (though you can opt out of this).

If you’re already a member of another Ramblers group, please see our separate page on Transferring membership.
