Winter Staycation 2022–23

As the cold weather settles in and December approaches, it’s time once again to announce and organise the BW Winter Staycation for another year! The idea is to have a fairly full programme of walks and socials over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, for those who are staying around the area and looking for something to do.

Due to the timing this year, with both Christmas and new Year falling on a weekend, this will start after the Christmas weekend, running from Tuesday 27th December to Monday 2nd January (although if anyone would like to lead a walk on e.g. Christmas Eve or Boxing Day, you’re welcome to do so!)

Walk leaders, get your thinking hats on!

All types of walk are welcome, but given the short days, winter conditions, and people’s other plans, most Staycation walks are usually on the shorter end of the range – 5 to 8 miles is probably ideal. Why not have a look at the 2018, 2019 or 2021 programmes for inspiration? (There was no 2020 Staycation due to the Covid lockdown.)

If you have a walk in mind that you’d like to put on during this period (even if it’s a repeat of a previous walk, or you haven’t recced it yet) please do get in touch with me and let me know which date(s) you could do and I’ll try and find a space in the programme for it! It would be great to fill out the programme well in advance rather than leaving it until the last minute.

Social organisers too…

We don’t yet have any socials planned for the Staycation period, though of course we have several planned for earlier in December (a theatre trip, the Christmas meal, and the fancy dress pub crawl). Please contact Andrew (Social Secretary) if you’re interested in putting on any others – it would be great to have one or two over the Staycation period to complement the walks.

And don’t forget the other dates

Of course, please get in touch too if you’d like to lead a walk at any other time as well – in particular we’ve still get a few weekend days in December to fill: 4th, 10th (finishing early so people can get ready for the Christmas meal), 17th (finishing in time to go on to the pub crawl if possible), and 18th – and it would be be great to start getting a programme into January too for those looking to walk in the new year.
